"There aren't too many people in Lancaster who have contributed as much to the welfare of this city as Simon A. Cantor. Successful businessman and tireless promoter of downtown Lancaster, he was also as active in civic affairs as anyone." - January 27, 1982 Lancaster New Era

Unfortunately there is no mention of his son Larry who worked for him and also ran Cantor Shoes in Harrisburg. His Son in law Johnny Steinsnyder who ran and later owned the Snavely and Dosch Company that Simon Cantor owned. No mention of his brother Ben who he was in business with. Try research for good journalism.

I always look forward to reading the comments. In response: This is a blog — not an exhaustive biography on the Cantor family. While I never thought of myself as a journalist, I hope that my brief look at Simon Cantor’s legacy was something that would encourage others to do further research. I’m sure everyone made a significant contribution to the family business. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Simon’s wife, who played a huge role as well. Her contributions to the different civic and religious life of our city are noteworthy. If Larry, Johnny and Ben were invested in the downtown like Simon and his wife, I’m sure I would’ve loved to meet them too.

I just recently came across your information concerning my father and I thank you for your thoughts. However I wish I would’ve had the opportunity to fill in the between the lines information. If someday you would like to hear another version, e-mail me and I will send you my phone number. By the way I am not sure where the sixth Ward is. Be well and stay safe.
